Arguably the single most fearsome ground weapon ever devised by the Empire, the AT-AD is three times the size of the old model AT-AT, and boasts such an armament that it could annihilate one with great ease. It came about as a result of indecisive engineers: every improvement they wanted to make, every addition they wanted to put in, every role they wanted it to fill, successionally making it larger and more powerful than the last, until it became such a monstrosity that even the Executor of the Empire took notice of it. It was at that point the idea of the AT-AD became a plan, and from a plan into a creation, a creation of the Empire.
The AT-AD combines the best features of all of the heavy vehicles used prior by the Empire. The central armament, the Ball Turret on its snout, makes the AT-AT?s look like a toy gun. The forehead of the behemoth is equipped with a much-larger version of the SPMA?s main gun (an artillery piece). The Shell-style armor used for the new-model AT-SE was thickened quite substantially and applied with a similar intent. It has equipped a heavy weapon on every side of it, allowing it to defend itself against a large assault from any direction. Because if its monstrous proportions, it was determined to put two Quad Heavy Laser Cannons atop of it, to slice through any threat enemy fighters or bombers presented.
The whole of the hull of the AT-AD is so dense and layered, that no personal armament (even a heavy RPG) is of sufficient strength to penetrate any portion of it. Even the bridge section itself, which one would expect to be the weakest point, is made of Transparisteel, equally dense with the rest of the front of it. For added protection of the command section, a second, more concentrated shield generator powered by an independent generator is dedicated to protecting it ? activating immediately upon detection of the primary shield failing.
Each AT-AD acts as a mobile command station, able to direct other Imperial ground forces around it ? and its unprecedented height, giving it ample ability to survey the whole region around it, only adds to its effectiveness in that effort. At the center of the command deck is a large holographic display, giving a 3D rendering of the whole area, able to display miles of the terrain in every direction. Tied into the holographic display are the gunners, whom through their helmets are given a 360-degree representation of the battlefield, allowing them to select targets with pinpoint accuracy and with greater speed than regular targeting systems.
Certain parts of the outside of the AT-AD were designed with specialized magnetic locking mechanisms, allowing it to literally carry four AT-SEs on its hull. Two hung from the sides, in gaps between the legs, and two on the bottom of the AT-AD. The two AT-SEs that clung to the sides had to be magnetically leveled out to an upward position from being on their side in carrying position before lowered to the ground. However, this was done purposefully ? it kept the most armored parts of the AT-SE facing outwards, and though awkward, even allowed it to fire its armaments from its carrying position, adding even more firepower to the AT-AD?s already substantial loadout. The internal capacity of the AT-AD was also extensive, allowing up to 200 soldiers to be held at the ready for deployment at a moment?s notice. It could in the right configuration, however, remove most of the troop quarters and place instead four additional packed AT-SEs. The beast could literally carry all of the personal defense forces that it could require.
Before being put into mass production, the AT-AD had five special-production models created, each slightly personalized to the intended recipient. The first, #0, was dedicated to the Emperor himself, encased in a layer of the purest gold in all the galaxy, buffed and polished to utmost perfection, to represent his supreme authority and omnipotence. The following four were made in unison, as a symbol of the equal greatness that they possessed, and each were uniquely named. The first, ?War?, was taken by Roan; the second, ?Death?, given to Fel, the Demon Lord; the third, ?Famine?, was taken by Zilaya Fel; and the fourth, ?Pestilence?, given to Seiryu Akatsuki. Each one represents their strengths and importance as friends and allies of the Empire.
